Training on Deafhood in India
The Deafhood in India course at Hear A Million is a Deaf-led learning experience that explores history, identity, language, community, and resistance. It responds to key challenges such as internalized oppression, lack of cultural knowledge, and limited Deaf-centered spaces by creating a rich, supportive environment for reflection and growth.
This training is not only about gaining knowledge. It’s about unlearning oppression, reconnecting with our shared history, and finding new ways to think, feel, and act together as a united Deaf community. Through deep reflection, honest dialogue, and collective learning, participants strengthen their self-awareness, pride, and leadership.
"Allyship through Deafhood" is designed to help participants, both Deaf and hearing, deepen their understanding of Deaf perspectives by exploring real-life scenarios and lived experiences shared by Deaf individuals across India. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing everyday barriers, unconscious biases, and cultural differences that impact the Deaf community. Through dialogue, reflection, and collaborative learning, the workshop encourages all participants to become stronger allies—working together with Deaf individuals to create more inclusive, respectful, and empowering spaces. The session is open to both hearing and Deaf participants, aiming to build a meaningful allyship bridge that helps close the gap between the two communities."

Deafhood in India Course is a 40-day in-person intensive training program designed specifically for Deaf individuals.
